Lots of stuff going on!
[livejournal.com profile] redactrice and I talked to a realtor on Friday about selling the house; we got lots of useful advice about getting it ready, a contact to help with doing some of the basic cleanup (painting, minor repairs, etc.), and an undertaking to represent us. She thinks we have a very good chance to get what we were originally expecting, or maybe a little more, rather than considerably less as we had feared. This is good news for everyone.

Neta came over and she and I went out to dinner with [livejournal.com profile] redactriceand [livejournal.com profile] shy_kat. I think everyone felt a little awkward, but by and large it went pretty well. After we got back, N and I hung out and talked for a while, ended up getting into our first real fight :-(, made up :-), and went to sleep.

Saturday [livejournal.com profile] gr_c17 and I went up to Cold Wars. We saw a lot of cool battles, ran into a number of old friends, did a lot of window-shopping, and bought a few things as well. I think I came back with half a dozen books, a couple of new sets of miniatures rules, and one boardgame. I also got a wee giftie for Neta, a set of miniature soccer players! :-) The weather didn't give us too much trouble, mostly because Mr Sherwood was kind enough to drive us in his Big Blue Beast.

Sunday I spent mostly with Neta. We went to mass at her church, then had brunch at a very good Mexican restaurant near her. We strolled about talking about soccer, bought some chocolate-covered strawberries, and went back to her place to eat them (yum!) She gave me a really cute card for my birthday, and some excellent presents (a book of mouth-watering recipes for me to try making for us and a guidebook of British castles for us to explore together). Then we went out to Great Falls for a hike. (Pictures here.) We ran into Lonnie and Lisa from the Screaming Eagles, and we saw lots and lots of very excited brown water pouring down the Potomac, making amazing torrents and sparkly foam. Neta spotted a cool ice formation, and we found an ancient pothole that had been carved away that made a perfect nook to hide out of the wind in. We stopped by her place to do a few chores, then we went back to mine for dinner and snuggling. Really, it was a simply wonderful birthday!

There was some bad news about my father over the weekend; he's been slipping into the early stages of dementia, according to his doctor, and while they can help him a bit, that's about all they can do. My sisters and I really have to help my parents find some sort of place where they can live and get regular, trained help on a daily basis. That will mean helping them find an assisted living location and clear out and sell their house, SOON. Between that and other things, I think I may be postponing my own moving plans, at least for a while. We'll still be selling an taigh anns na craobhan, much to my sorrow, as I can't afford to buy out [livejournal.com profile] redactrice's share. But it's been lovely living there, and I'm sure that I will find a nice place for me and the Boys to live (and maybe a nice other person and her cat to live with us).
